Anonymous hackers threaten to take down Irish government websites as revenge for water charges

Anonymous Ireland warns Irish government of mass attacks on 5th May against water charges

The Irish wing of the hacktivist collective Anonymous has warned the Irish government of large scale attacks on its websites on 5th May, 2015 and bring down their IT network. The warning was issued over the Ireland government’s decision to charge Irish citizens for water harvesting.

In message to the Irish government, posted on the ‘Anonymous Ireland expect us’ Facebook page, says it will take down the encrypted IT systems next month. Anonymous Ireland has also claimed that it has capacity to steal highly sensitive information, which it says will be publicised online.

Anonymous Ireland said that its primary target is “Dail Eireann”, while warning that “All Dail’s information will be free to you.”

Dail Eireann is the lower house, and principal chamber, of the Oireachtas (Irish legislature) and Ireland’s highest law making body.

Anonymous have given the Irish government time till 2nd May, 2015 to revoke the new water charges bill.

We will not PAY!!
For those who are not already aware. Irish water have it in their contract that they will charge for rainwater harvesting. So not only are they going to charge you for the water they treat but they will also charge you if you try to harvest the rain from the sky. This among other issues is what we will be protesting against on the 2nd of May

People of Ireland, if you do not believe in the change that is coming there will be no change, we cannot do it all by ourselves, you the people have to stand together as one and make the change if not, you will be stuck in this hopeless life your government are forcing you to live in. It will get a lot worse if you don’t help the movement that is heading your way on the 2nd of May.! This is going to be a new fight against austerity and corruption. The new plan of action is under way that will make you stronger, bigger and more powerful than any government. Together we will go along away, alone we will go nowhere.

It’s time people of Ireland get up and take back what they took from you!

We are anonymous
We are legion
We do not forgive
We do not forget
Expect us

Irish government spokesperson has said that they have taken neccessary steps to mitigate any such attacks. “The Oireachtas Service is aware of a publicised threat to its ICT network,” said Verona Ni Bhroin, Houses of the Oireachtas PRO. It uses “several security systems and features to protect its ICT systems,” she told the Irish Independent.
